Friday Photo: Trainers

Each Friday I’ll serve up a photo and give you the story behind it. This week, my Peace Corps program tech trainers Yassine and Andre.

The Small Enterprise Development (SED) team here in Burkina Faso is extremely lucky to have two wonderful people filling these roles. Yassine is an amazing resource – especially on cultural issues. She spent years in the US, and seems more American than many PCVs (who quickly adapt into village life). Andre, who has also spent some time in the US, is an agricultural wizard, and our go-to for any and all questions on crops – important in a society where agriculture represents over 30% of GDP and 80% of the workforce. This photo is from our last days of training where we presented each with some much deserved thank-yous.

I am amazed that anyone can wear a sweater vest in 104 degree weather! It’s been that hot here, and a sweater vest was not an option… :-)

Ha, and Andre is wearing a jacket! I’m pretty sure that I’ve never seen a PCV wearing a sweater or jacket during the day here (this photo was taken around 4pm). Though I will say I’m amazed at some people’s ability to get used to the heat. Some people complain of a chill when it’s “only” 75-80 degrees in the early morning hours. This will never be a skill of mine, however.
